Hickory Knut Gap

Hickory Knut Gap to Scaly Mountain is a 3.5 mile out and back trail a few miles from Highlands. From Highlands, head down Highway 106 South for approximately 4 miles and turn right onto Turtle Pond Road. Drive for 0.25 miles and turn left onto Hickory Knut Road. Drive 0.9 miles to the top of the gap. The trail is a forest service road on the left. Park on the right side of the road. Walk up the road for 0.28 miles, the trail will leave the road sharply to the right. Follow the blue blazed trail to the junction with the Bartram trail. Once you reach the junction with the Bartram trail, follow the yellow blazes to the Scaly Mountain Summit.
