Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society

As the Carolina’s prepare for the arrival of #HurricaneFlorence, we already have heroes amongst us in our community!!!  They come in the form of staff, leadership and volunteers from the Cashiers-Highlands Humane SocietyIn a whirlwind 24-hour trip that began at 5:00am on Tuesday morning, the CHHS Animal Rescue Team deployed for the Outer Banks, aboard the North Carolina H.E.A.R.T (Humane Emergency Adopt Rescue Transport) vehicle, to assist in the rescue and transportation of nearly 100 animals to other inland shelters.  Their goal was also to bring rescue animals back home to the Plateau in hopes of finding their forever homes.  For media coverage on the mission, see here.

Established in 1987, the CHHS has seen tremendous growth over the years.  Supported solely by donations, grants and special events, this no-kill shelter has become a precious agency in the hearts of the citizens in the Cashiers-Highlands community, and abroad.  Just last week, I myself, adopted our new little girl, Lily.  For more information, to donate or to find your new family member, visit
